Today's river visit was a different event altogether. Fish slapped and splashed all over the place. Dozens and hundreds of fishies practically throwing their bodies at our hooks. But they were suffering, cancerous, yucky bodies. Strange spots were scattered upon the dull colored scales. A fight they did not give us as we caught them and there was so little life left. Poor fishies are in the last moments of their life cycle. We still caught two and filleted them in the river on the spot. Well, the FisherNino nabbed the fishies and filleted them. (I don't do slimeys or guts or thrashing fish with creepy teeth.) Our kitchen now only has a slight residue of fishiness and bleach mingling to our noses. One more fishing endeavor achieved. And about 11 fillets chilling in the freezer waiting for someone who didn't catch them to savor them with a little garlic, butter, steamed veggies, and the perfect wine combination.
(Note: The photos above were clearly not river fishing in Monroe in September...Playa del Carmen in July for our anniversary vacation. We secured a mini catamaran and navigated it into the nearly treacherous waves of the Caribbean to attempt catching some sweet tropical looking fish.)
