All Things Mexico Part Four

YOU KNOW YOU'RE MEXICAN IF...

*You could signal for a bus or taxi accurately in your sleep
*Your lunch was living last night
*If you have sufficient money you hire another Mexican to clean your house at least every once in awhile or be your gardener
*You have multiple friends named Juan, Jose, Maria, Ana, or Luis
*You don't own a dryer for your laundry so your house looks like a ghetto clothing store when you do laundry cause there are clothes hanging all over the yard
*You have to turn the hot water on before a shower to heat the tank cause electricity is expensive
*You can do your makeup on the bus and not poke your eye out
*Ovens are for storage, not baking, silly
*The bus driver can smoke on the bus
*When the circus is in town their form of advertisement is driving around with cages that have widely spaced bars in the back of pickup trucks with a lion or tiger inside
*You eat papaya even though the seeds look like "rabbit turds" (thanks, Sarah M.)
*You don't wear gloves when cleaning someone else's toilet
*Turning 15 is a bigger deal than your graduation or wedding
*There are speed bumps on all the major roads and many round-abouts to slow down the crazy speeding drivers
*You always pay in cash...what's plastic?
*You hang crucifixes everywhere even if you don't go to Catholic church
*You know all the words to Las Mananitas
*You're used to sun at least 360 days of the year
*You know what Oxxo and Mega and Farmacias Similares are
*Futbol is life
*You understand that Bimbo is something you can eat, not a cheap, sleazy woman
*You almost never wear shorts, flip-flops, or sunglasses...freakin' tourists!
*You don't trust the police for anything
*Going to the park means a little grass and some concrete benches
*Your family owns a store inside your house
*Your newspapers have dead bloody people or naked women on the front of them
*Your underwear are named after an Italian meat pastry stuffed with cheese and sauce--calzones
*A rooster wakes you up in the morning
*You dont mind if your "llantas", pregnant belly, or post-pregnant belly with stretch marks and sagginess show
*You put your garbage out on the street in a pile (that the dogs eat) when you hear a bell ringing
*Your neighbor owns a horse
*You buy your water and gas from a truck that drives around shouting their sales pitch from a loud speaker
*Dog poop all over the streets and sidewalks is normal

(I cannot help myself...there are so many examples of how life is different here in good, bad, and neutral ways!)
