It seems I am most often inspired as I am going from one place to the next and have an interlude to think on little tidbits or drink in the world around me. I particularly marvel on occasions at the incredibly powerful reflection that is the Puget Sound. The closeness of Mt. Rainier leaves me in awe. Blends of brilliant colors like when my smoothie is just mixing up before it all becomes one shade intrigue me in the sky with summer sunset views. Green-lined hills, beaming their tickley pride of evergreens and deciduous delights are mere moments from my location. That hot, heavy scent that is a greater than ninety degree day in the Seattle area that leaves you feeling slightly suffocated, but simultaneously blanketed in warmth as with a thick winter comforter.
I love sensations. Feeling them, remembering them, describing them. What we see, taste, touch, smell, and hear are unique to us, though another may have similar experiences, really, those sense are ours alone. One wonderful and cherished memory is that of sleeping for three nights in our tent on the deck of our home because the house was too hot to bear in the evenings. We would step from our house, overwhelmed with heat and perspiration, feeling the burning pressure of needing more air like when you are swimming and underwater too long, and then would come the feeling of immediate relief as that crisp, cool, drier air hit our lungs--the surfacing from the depths of the water and breaking into refreshment outdoors.
We snuggled in with a few blankets heaped on top of our couch cushions, grabbed a flashlight from the garage, and pulled back the rain flap to watch a show, wrapped in the safeness of each other's arms. Our entertainment--the security of a big spoon and a little spoon being at peace in the night air, a blurry smattering of *stars* thanks to light pollution and leaving my glasses in the house, gentle conversation.
Though the occasional car rushed past on the street nearby and we could even hear late-night strollers passing by chatting, we felt right and calm. These are sensational moments. Where you can see them, taste them, feel them, smell them, and hear them in your memory and savor the details that didn't seem as significant at the time, but are now dear and intricate.
