what is it that's so delighting and enchanting about a christmas tree? seriously...does anyone have any ideas?
well, if you do it right, the tree is beautiful. it is full and green and sparkling with precious ornaments and bright lights, and then topped with an angel or star. it even smells incredible of pine and the outdoors, but it's right in your home. what's not to love?
i think that it's not really the tree, though. i think it's the memories that it represents. when i glance at the tree glowing in the living room of my apartment, i find that i am taken back to various christmases with my mom, dad, sisters, brother-in-law, dogs, cats, etc. i remember coming downstairs with my sisters, a blanket over our heads with sarah leading the way so we couldnt see anything but our feet shuffling on the ground to my mom's room. we would wake her up and go out to the tree. goodness surrounded the little fir. not just because someone had spent money on me; no, because time and thought had gone into the gifts, representing the love my family has for each other. i get some of the same little goodies in my stocking every year and am always pleased with the treasures the family so thoughtfully chooses for me. but really, it's all about the love and memories, i guess. even though when i go home, i am just spending the night there, christmas always illuminates those sweet moments for me with my family- past and present.
enough with the cheesiness...i have to say- it's funny how a dead tree that's probably a terrible fire hazard and takes up a great deal of power and financial investment conjures up such memories dear to my heart.
