New Years in California--Livin' It Up
After an 18-hour drive from Everett, WA to Glendale, CA we arrived only to wake up the next day to reserve our seats on Colorado St. in Pasadena for the Rose Bowl Parade. We spent 10 hours off and on in shifts over the next 24 hours saving our prized position in front of the Enterprise rental and playing hours of poker and were even able to ring in the new year with the thousands of other people on the streets that night. The night was spent in a stranger's apartment on the floor with a makeshift bed of couch cushions and sleeping in my clothes. In the morning, we woke up, washed our faces, and walked a block to our little site for parade viewing in the same clothes we were in all night and the day before. It was all worth the adventure and experience of it. We saw marching bands from all over the nation and world, lots of floats covered in arrays of flowers, fruits, nuts, and other natural decor, horses, good-looking men on horses, Star Wars characters, and so much more. Hurray the Trojans won the Rose Bowl too! Here are a few pictures to commemorate the event and the journey that brought us to the streets of California to ring in the new year and welcome 2007!
